How to play Coil Clash
Coil Clash is a free multiplayer game for up to 8 players in your browser. Every player is a line that never stops moving. You only steer left and right, and the last one moving wins the round.
The rules
- Your snake always moves forward. You can only turn left or right.
- It leaves a solid line behind it. Touch any line, yours included, or the wall, and you are out for the round.
- Every so often each line breaks into a gap. Gaps are how you escape a trap, so watch for them.
- After a while sudden death starts and everyone speeds up, so no round lasts forever.
Scoring
Most modes use survival points, the classic rule: every time a snake crashes, everyone still alive gets a point. The first to the target score wins the match, and the target grows with the number of players. Team modes count round wins instead: the last snake or team standing takes the round.
Controls
- Keyboard: ← → or A D, or the left and right mouse buttons. All three work at once, and you can change them in Settings.
- Phone or tablet: on-screen arrows. You can move them, resize them and make them see-through from the cog menu in a match, and full screen fills the phone.
Power-ups
Power-ups appear on the arena as coloured circles. Green ones help you, red ones hit every opponent, and blue ones change the arena for everyone. Most stack: pick up the same one twice and the effect doubles. All 19 power-ups.
Modes
- Free For All: Everyone for themselves, with every power-up in play.
- Team 4v4 · Thin Only: Two teams of four. The only power-up that spawns is Thin.
- Speed Rush: Only speed power-ups: boost yourself or curse everyone else.
- Classic: No power-ups at all. Pure curving skill.
- 1v1 Duel: Two snakes, every power-up.
- Chaos: Every power-up, spawning constantly. Short, silly matches.
- Lights Out: Halloween only: the arena goes dark and you see just around your own head. Every power-up in play.
Playing alone, with friends, or ranked
- Quick play puts you in a match straight away. Bots fill any empty seats and step aside for real players, and your first matches are against gentler bots.
- Play with friends: open a private room and send the link, or share the 5-character room code. Friends join from their browser or phone with no sign-up.
- Custom games: pick every power-up, the arena size, the scoring and the bots.
- Ranked: fixed rules, real players only, and four ladders (Classic, Thin Only, Speed Only and All Power-ups). It needs a free account with a confirmed email.
- One keyboard: up to 4 people can play on one keyboard offline, against each other and bots. How it works.
Tips
- Stay away from the walls early on: the middle gives you room to turn.
- Leave yourself an exit. A tight spiral looks safe until the gap you were counting on closes.
- Cut across a rival's path, not into it: make them turn first.
- When you crash you drift on as a ghost that only other knocked-out players can see. Collect wisps while you wait for the next round.
